Our client is a small business that was founded in 2005. They provide cleaning, repair, and replacement services to residential and light commercial customers throughout Seattle/Tacoma metropolitan region.  This company is one of the best small businesses on the West Coast and their brand is synonymous with exceptional service and integrity in all areas. 

Our client employs over 70 people and 100% of their work is focused on service and repair (i.e. no new construction).  The company has increased net revenue by roughly 60% over the past two (2) years to $11M as a direct result of (a) an outstanding local reputation and (b) fielding an exceptionally strong, long-tenured team.  With the support of Skylight, management intends to double the company’s size over the next five (5) years.


The company’s rapid expansion requires better financial and accounting capabilities customary to a more complex and sizable business. 

The Controller serves as the nucleus for all finance and accounting functions here.  A solid candidate will be able to leverage existing accounting and finance experience in a small business environment where intelligence, people skills, and cost consciousness are critical.  This role will require the candidate to begin to affect positive change within the company immediately.

  • Lead and complete monthly financial closing for $11M revenue business with 70 FTEs
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements (B/S, I/S, and C/F)
  • Complete monthly P&L variance reporting
  • Reconcile bank statements, inter-company balances, and balance sheet GL accounts
  • Reconcile balance sheet GL accounts
  • Assist with negotiating and administering employee benefit program and company wide insurance policies
  • Lead payroll processing efforts
  • Lead tax filings (LNI, SUTA, 941, FUTA, etc.) and compliance (Wage & Hour)
  • Analyze and forecast business trends, prepare cash forecast and monthly/annual budget work
  • Maintain and update fixed asset spreadsheet, including maintaining/updating vehicle records
  • Seek out cost reduction opportunities and monitor existing cost reduction efforts
  • Lead and Manage a dynamic and growing accounting team
  • Manage and centralize accounting functions of multiple locations, including integrating acquisitions
  • Minimum of three (3) years as a Controller at a $10M+ revenue company managing all relevant accounting and finance functions
  • 3+ years overseeing direct reports
  • Exposure to service industry and construction law as well as general contractor/sub-contractor relations
  • Strong Excel skills
  • BBA in Accounting, or Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • Proven implementation and execution abilities and the ability to take ownership of key decision processes
  • Ability to identify and capture cost savings
